All
parcels of land –no matter how they are described–
are dependent on the location of the 8 original
government corners of a regular section. A minimum
of 5 corners are needed to survey any fractional
part of a section such as a quarter quarter section
of approximately 40 acres. The areas of these parcels
are dependent on the distance & angles measured
between these original corners and not the true
one-half mile measurement of 2,640 feet, which is
a very rare occurrence.
